DRUM SUBMITS APPLICATION NOTICE FOR LEITH WALK

Drum Property Group is in the early stages of developing proposals for a mixed-use development at Stead’s Place, Leith Walk, and has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice to Edinburgh City Council.

The site in Leith represents a major opportunity to revitalise an important part of the city, and potentially create a mix of affordable housing, innovative post graduate student accommodation, hotel facilities for visitors to the city, and retail space for the benefit of local retailers and the community.

The plans for the affordable housing will be developed in partnership with Places for People, with the University of Edinburgh operating the post-graduate student accommodation, which will also incorporate a hotel and restaurant / café. It is also proposed that the Leith Walk frontage of the new development will provide space for local retail, business and community uses.

Graeme Bone, Group Managing Director, Drum Property Group said:

“Our vision for the site at Stead’s Place is to provide welcoming, inspirational and distinctive spaces for use by local residents, post graduate students and the wider public.

We believe that developing purpose built affordable housing, retail units, a hotel and post graduate accommodation on this conveniently located site on Leith Walk will help alleviate housing pressures in the local area and provide a boost for inward investment in Leith that will help sustain community facilities and create additional opportunities for local business, maximising the potential for additional future investment in the area.”

We are keen for both local organisations and current tenants along the frontage to Leith Walk to contribute as we develop our plans.  We look forward to working with City of Edinburgh Council and local community groups as we work towards preparing a detailed planning application for the site.”

The first public exhibition outlining plans for the site was held at Out of the Blue Drill Hall, Dalmeny Street on 23rd and 24th March 2018. The second public exhibition was held on the 1st May, 4th and 5th May 2018.
